LATEST UPDATE: ELECTRONIC TRAVEL AUTHORIZATION (eTA) REPLACES eVISA TO KENYA

Starting January 4th, the Electronic Travel Authorization (eTA) replaces the eVisa in Kenya. Apart from holders of valid Kenya Passports, holders of Kenya Permanent Residence, valid Work Permits and Passes, and Citizens of the East African Partner States, all visitors arriving in Kenya including infants and children, must apply for the eTA.

Visitors must apply for an eTA via the official Government website https://www.etakenya.go.ke before commencing their journey.  For travelers under the age of 18, the responsibility of completing the application lies with the legal guardian, parent, or accompanying adult.

The standard processing time for ETAs is three working days. However, travelers can submit their applications up to 3 months in advance prior to their arrival. The status of applications can be checked at any time on the ETA website using the ETA reference number. We highly recommend that travelers apply as soon as they have booked their accommodations and transport tickets.

All previous visa entry requirements for Kenya are now replaced by the requirement of eTAs. However, e-visas currently in process will still be issued and visitors with existing e-visas will be granted access to Kenya within the validity period of 90 days, without the additional requirement of an ETA.

Please have the following documents ready before starting your application.

Requirements for all travelers:

  • Valid passport for at least six (6) months after their planned date of arrival into Kenya with at least one blank page.
  • Passport-type photo
  • Contact information (Email address and phone number)
  • Details of arrival and departure itinerary
  • Accommodation booking confirmation
  • Credit card, debit card, Apple Pay, or other means of payment $34 per person

Requirements – Depending on country of residence/travel history

  • Yellow fever certificate.
  • Other vaccination(s) or test results certificates.

*Please note that the eTA is for a single entry into Kenya as well as being airline/flight specific and date specific.

How to apply for eTA

  • Visit etakenya.go.ke
  • Click “Apply Now” and follow the instructions
  • Make sure that all the data has been entered correctly
  • Submit the application
  • An email confirming receipt of your application and payment will be sent to you
